mawz is a Mamiya, Cosina/Voigtlander, Panasonic, Pentax and Nikon shooter with an unhealthy interest in mixed film/digital workflows and manual focus lenses.
His primary interest is urban shooting, with a mix of street photography, architectural and cityscapes, particularly in low light and urban nature explorations. Portraiture is also an interest, although one rarely exercised fully. Work is a split between B&W and Colour depending on how the mood takes him on any day. Negative space and nature/man-made contrasts are recurring themes inmawz's work. A profound aversion to 'Golden Hour' and a love of high contrast night and noonday sun images also affects his work.
Currently, he is pursuing a project that has been dubbed 'Nokton for a Year', working nearly exclusively with a Nikon FM2n, Voigtlander Nokton 58mm f1.4 SLII and Ilford HP5+. This project is expected to last until June 7, 2010.
His Mamiya gear includes a Mamiya M645 Super with 55mm f2.8 N lens, 80mm f1.9 C lens, 80mm f2.8 C lens, 150mm f3.5 C lens, Winder N, AE Prism Finder FE401, Prism Finder N, Cable Release Adaptor N, 3 Super 120/220 backs and 4x120 and 3x220 inserts.
His Nikon gear includes F80, F801s, F2a, FM2n and FE2 bodies with the Nikkor 20mm f2.8 AF, Nikkor 24mm f2.8 AF, Nikkor 35mm f1.4 AI-S, Voigtlander Ultron 40mm f2 Aspherical SLII Pancake, Nikon Series E 50mm f1.8, Nikkor 50mm f2 AI, Voigtlander Nokton 58mm f1.4 SLII, Nikkor 85mm f1.8 K AI'd, Nikkor 105mm f2.5 AI, Nikkor 135mm f2.8 AI, Nikkor 24-84mm f3.5-4.5G AF-S, Vivitar 70-150 f3.8 AI, and Kiron 70-210 f4 MC AI lenses. Kiron 1.5x Match-Mate and 2x 7-element TC's, an SB-24 Speedlight, SB-26 Speedlight, SB-28 Speedlight, Sunpak Auto DX 8R Ringlight, SC-17 Cord, SG-3IR panel, MC-30 remote and an AS-1 hotshoe adapter round out the major accessories.
His Cosina/Voigtlander gear includes a Bessa R body and Ultron 28mm f1.9 Aspherical lens. A 50mm lens is planned.
His Panasonic Micro-4/3rds Gear includes a Panasonic DMC-G1 and G Vario 14-45mm f3.5-5.6 OIS Aspherical, Olympus ZD 25mm f2.8 and ZD ED 40-150mm f4-5.6 lenses and Panasonic DMW-MA1, Contax-4/3, Nikon-4/3, Leica M-Micro 4/3rds, and M42-4/3 adapters. More is planned.
His Pentax kit includes a ZX-M body, Mount Adapter K (M42-K mount) and Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 50mm f1.4. No more is planned, but Pentax kit is a drug he just can't kick.
Tamron Adaptall-2 kit is also slowly metasizing. It currently comprises SP 17mm f3.5, 28mm f2.5 and SP 90mm f2.5 Macro lenses with Contax/Yashica, Pentax KA and Nikon AI mounts. More mount adapters are planned, more lenses merely expected.
Other gear includes a Super Ricohflex TLR and Coronet 12-Twenty box camera.
